This is a vintage Gibson Les Paul Deluxe that has three of its original pots that have date codes of 1974 52. CTS date codes on (I think) three of the pots are 1377452. Some solder is in the way but one pot shows all numbers.
One pot is changed out. That could mean it was manufactured in 1974 or 1975. A bit of a mystery.
The truss rod cover says Deluxe but the rare soap bar pickups are original. This is a really cool players guitar that you dont have to do anything to, unless you want to. It is ready to plug in and play. ORif you want to restore it closer to original and do some restoration work, you could do that.
Depends on what you want! Its a great player guitar as is, with a cool retro vibe. So take a ride in the rumble seat of the time machine and take a look at a rare Gibson LP. The first striking thing is the see-through bobbin pickups which are the soapbar type P90 and are original to the guitar.
I have pics of this I can sendthe routing is factory original. The guitar plays pretty well across the board and the neck looks good.
I would say it currently has medium close action with minimal buzz. The truss rod works and if you want it to play closer I think you could accommodate that with a minimal set-up.The frets show just a little wearminor pittingdoesnt really need any attention at this time but if you wanted closer action you could do a set up with a light fret level and get there. Frets are beefy and don't have heavy wear. More details on originality and parts. There has been no refinishing work that I can see. The headstock repair is a pro job that was done without refinishing the surface. I prefer that method since it leaves the original finish intact.
It is visible but presents no structural problem. The serial number and made in USA were impressed so lightly at the factory that the numbers are next to impossible to read. Holding it in the right light you can sort of make out that it is there along with made in USA. There is a chipped edge on one headstock corner. Tuners have been changedprobably several decades ago.As the tuners have Japan on the back. G-string shaft has a slight bend. The bridge is original with patent number underneath but saddles have been changed to modern nylon.
They offer a nice warm tone. They could be notched a little deeper on the outer strings in order to follow the fingerboard radius, but they are ok(Im getting really picky now). The saddles are notched on center and shallow. Plenty of room to make the outer ones deeper.
The tailpiece I also believe to be original and it has the correct geometry and line across the bottom. The back plates are both non original. Shielding tape has been added to the cavities. The pickguard bracket is gold and is non original. I suspect the pickguard is non original.
The Brazillian rosewood board is stunning and fret markers are in good condition. The truss rod cover looks super old and part of the ink is worn off.The screws are believed to be original and there is a tiny crack in the top hole. The electronics are all in working order. And it still looks great! Overall, this guitar is a strong survivor and an excellent player if you want a vintage Les Paul that you can take to gigs and not worry about. The price point reflects all the changes and neck repair. Ordinarily this guitar would be in the 4 K range with these pick ups. Includes 1980's case: The chainsaw case is the third generation variant and is from the 1980s. It is rock solid with working latches.
It is missing the logo on the outside which is often the situation with this variant. It is otherwise in good condition.
The fur around the headstock (inside) has come unglued a little but it is all still there. If you have questions, I can offer an in-hand description: call JIM 401 419 zero six two one.
